    A. The Pfister 974-291 does replace the 974-491 (cartridge) if before 1997 for many Pfister Shower Faucets. Other than that Pfister doesn't give much information to answer weather this is the only pressure balanced cartridge to replace others.

Installed in 5 minutes After finding where to order the part which took visits to 5 different hone centers and hardware stores I ordered the part it arrived and I installed it in about 5 minutes. Only thing I wish the directions provided up front was a clarification as to how to install so lever delvered the water in the same fashion as before. What I mean here is I had to take it out and reverse it so the hot and cold water came out the same as before. Only issue I have is that your form here is a little dumb when it comes to displaying a name! Took me 4 times to even get an acceptable name. September 19, 2011

Perfect Replacement Thought the original part was causing my problem. Very little cold water during a shower. TIP: I rotated the old part 180 degrees so cold was now hot and hot was now cold. Turned on shower and had opposite affect. Very little hot water. Therefore I knew the old part was my problem! I purchased this part 974-291. It fit perfect. Good price GREAT customer service. second time to repair. I bought this faucet at home depot or lowes about 7 years ago and this is the second time I have had to purchase a cartridge for it. The first time it wasn't even two years old. I would try the warranty but if you read the fine print, well I need my shower working and really don't want to waste the time with customer service messing with me. I haven't even tried because when they write that junk in the warranty I can't believe they will honor it. Next time i buy an el-cheapo faucet I will likely buy american standard or something foreign. August 2, 2011
