Beautiful but not bright
We stripped our house of polished brass, including hinges, faucets, lights, door handles. We are selling our house. We put up three of these lights, two in the upstairs hallway that gets plenty of natural light, and one in the lower-level back hallway that gets no natural light. These Minkas are beautiful, and always get noticed by real estate agents. The upstairs two with added natural light are plenty bright, and even seem fine at night since they are controlled by a single switch (ie, both come on together). The one by itself in a dark hall is, well, dark, to a point that it was unacceptable to agents. The odd part of this dark light is that there is plenty of room inside the globe for two lights if Minka had included a cheap second socket. We switched out the max 60W bulb for a "100W" CFL, which now almost overwhelms the dark hall in light. Perhaps we will move down to a "75W" CFL. So even though this Minka calls for a max of 60W, use of CFL lights can make it more than adequately bright even in dark hallways. But note that this isn't a perfect solution, as the bright CFL light will seem someway lopsided since the brightness will all come out of one side of the globe (nb: you can see the lopsidedness in Minka's own picture of this lamp) . This isn't a serious problem for us, as our light is at the end of a dark hallway, and no one can see the back of the light. Summary: Very beautiful, but lacking in brightness if installed in a dark hallway with a max 60W light, and somewhat lopsided in brightness if a "100W" CFL were used.
