  • does this have a big door kit? I need it to fit a 2 1/4 thick door

    A. The Kwikset Thick Door Kit is the Kwikset 81706.

  • what size is the set screw that holds on the lever handles? The ones that came with the lockset appear to be too short.

    A. The Kwikset 911TNL comes with screws that fit standard door thicknesses of 1-3/8" to 1-3/4". You would need to purchase an extra thick door kit if your door is thicker than that.

  • Can this be installed on an exterior door subject to weather?

    A. The Kwikset 911TNL is not recommended for exterior use that is subject to weathering conditions. I hope this answers your question.

    A. The Kwikset 911TNL can be locked from the inside. There will be a thumb turn on the interior lever.

  • can you set the lock so it only locks manually, not automatically?

    A. The Kwikset 911TNL locks automatically from the outside. However there is a thumbturn on the inside that allows for it to be manually locked or unlocked. Thank you for your question.

  • I am putting this on a metal exterior. It does not have a cut out for the 1x2 1/4 faceplate. Can I take the faceplate off or do I need to try and cut out the metal for the faceplate?

    A. The Kwikset 911TNL requires a 2-1/8" diameter face hole drilling and 1" diameter latch hole drilling. The faceplate cannot be removed.

  • My new doors have 2 holes pre-drilled 5 1/2 inches apart. Can I place a traditional deadbolt in the LOWER hole and the Kwikset 911TNL in the UPPER HOLE? Will they interfere with each other?

    A. The Kwikset 909 fits into a standard sized bore hole and will work on your door. You will probably want to use a lever or knob in the bottom hole though as opposed to another deadbolt.

  • The locks are blinking red on the keypad, I am guessing the batteries need changed. HOW do we do that?

    A. When the Kwikset 911TNL lights blink red you will have to replace the batteries. You will remove the cover plate on the inside and that will expose the batteries to replace them.

  • Will the handles from 740ll-s or 730ll fit the 911tnl?

    A. The Kwikset 911TNL is not designed to work with any other handles.

Wears out quickly I bought two Kwikset smart code locks when I bought my new house. They both stopped working after about 2 yrs. Customer service told me to follow the troubleshooting video on the website. They still didn't work. Now they are telling me I have to replace the key pads. In the meantime, we've had to use keys to lock the house so we're back to using keys anyway. It kind of defeats the purpose for buying these locks. What a hassle. I will never buy Kwikset again. Who builds locks that break after 2 years? The fact that they both stopped working at about the same time is suspicious. May 24, 2011

Warranty Info

Warranties cover the original residential user of Kwikset Products against defects in material and workmanship as long as the original user occupies the residential premises upon which the product was originally installed. This warranty DOES NOT COVER abused or misused products or non-commercial products used in commercial applications.

If a covered defect occurs, email or call 1- 800-327-LOCK (5625) for further assistance. A finish deterioration occurring from the use of paints, solvents or other chemicals is not a defect in the finish and is not covered by this warranty.

Kwikset is not liable for incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state. Mechanical and finish warranties are different for each Kwikset brand. One or more brands may be installed in your home (for instance, Kwikset UltraMax Signatures™ on the front door and Kwikset Maximum Security® on interior doors).
