The Kwikset 83014 is a complete dead latch unit consisting of a square corner faceplate that requires a 5" backset. This is sold only as a replacement part.

Deadlatch:Uses keys, and generally located at bathroom, bedroom and office entryways. It provides the perfect amount of indoor security for any home.

    A. A backset measurement is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of your door knob hole (also referred to as a "borehole"). If the distance from the edge of your door to the center of this hole is 5" then you will need one of these 5" Backset Deadlatches.

Great Item... When we found we needed a longer latch for a front door we were remodeling, none of the "home improvement" stores could help us with the longer reach we required. Just what I wanted! I had to order a special size dead latch for client's front door. The latch had to be offset by 5 inches and I thought I was never going to find such a product (such that the door was 30 years old). Well, my hopes were answered by this company not only having what I needed but from the time it was ordered to the time it was in my hand was, like, 3 days (even though I had it shipped regular mail). Thank goodness! A renter broke the doorknob on this now very rare lenght of door latch. We had nearly given up and resigned ourselves to having to buy a new door, which was also an odd size. Thank goodness that we were able to find this Kwikset Latch and with a new Kwikset knob we were able to repair the door in just a few minutes. July 3, 2010
