Elegance meets durability in the traditional Hancock. Its look, as well as its workmanship is designed to last. This single cylinder knob locks/unlocks with a key on the outside and a turn button on the inside.

  • Includes Standard Round Corner Strike Plate Part Number 83796 (Strike Plate is on Door Jamb). For Square Corner Strike Plate See Product: Kwikset 83437. For a T-Strike Plate See: Kwikset 83028.

  • need a lock that can b rekeyed to a key and a master key

    A. Kwikset features a technology called SmartKey on some of their door hardware. This specific product number is not SmartKey, but the SmartKey version is item number 740H-S. SmartKey does allow you to re-key your door hardware to whatever you wish so long as the pin is a 5-pin (will not work with a 6-pin). HOWEVER, SmartKey locks cannot be master keyed. At this time, Kwikset does not offer a knob that can be re-keyed and master keyed. They do offer a deabolt that features both which is model number 816 called a Control Key Deadbolt.

  • I need a door knob like this for an interior door 1 3/8" thick.

  • Is the smartkey system safe? It seems that anyone with a smartket tool could re-key the lock.

    A. Yes the SmartKey system is safe. The tool works only with a working key. To change the lock, you would need a functional key and the SmartKey.

  • Is this lock keyed on both sides?

    A. The Kwikset 740H is keyed on one side only.

Nice handle set but careful installing These handles are nice looking and functional, but the installation is a bit different from any other handset I've installed. The inside handle is held in place not by screw, but by a clasp between the bolt and the inside handle. If installation is easy, but if the handle is a little bit askew when you twist it to engage the clasp, the brass inside clasp can bend and the knob set is ruined. I had four to installed and this happened to two (I was able to recover one, but had to purchase another handle set for the other). In my opinion, it is better to avoid this design flaw and go with a set that screws the inside knob in place. December 11, 2010

Perfect match! Our home is only 5yrs old and when one of the door knobs started having problems I thought it would be easy to find a replacement. Not so. None of the hardware stores carries this particular style in our area. So when I found it on line I was a bit aprenhesive. But as it turned out it was a perfect match. It was coded to match our existing keys... once again a perfect match. Installation was easy of course because it was a direct replacement. Excellent service. Couldn't be more pleased. July 25, 2008
