Gibson Sectional Keyed Handleset with Double Cylinder SmartKey Lock by Kwikset

Welcoming and warm, the Gibson features a soft, oval design - a pleasing addition to any entrance door. Bottom Spring Latch is retracted by a thumbpiece on the exterior and lever/knob grip from the interior, except when both are locked by a key from the exterior or turnbutton from the interior. The upper Deadbolt is operated by a key from the exterior and a key from the interior. Equipped with the new SmartKey technology, this handleset is the perfect choice to protect your home or business. This is the exterior portion of a Kwikset Handleset. In order to have a full handleset, you must also select the interior pack. As you proceed to the cart, you will be prompted with all the compatible interior packs made by Kwikset. You will not be able to use this handleset without an interior pack.

  • How do I order this handleset in antique brass for an interior knob? I want a lever for a right-hand swinging door and the locking mechanism for the latch.

    A. This handleset can be ordered with a number of interior packs. After modifying your product (select finish, door thickness, free keying option and latch type), add the item to your cart. You'll then be prompted to select your interior pack. All of these interior packs are double cylinder. That means the deadbolt will be keyed on the interior and the exterior (operated by key on exterior and interior). Then the knob or lever you select will have a turn button to lock the latchbolt from the interior and will be locked by a key from the exterior.

  • what is the difference between the lifetime polished brass and the polished brass. Also why do I need an interior pack thats extra?

    A. Thank you for your question. The Kwikset 554GN-LIP-S's Lifetime Polished Brass finish has had additional treatment to help increase durability and discourage tarnishing. The interior pack is the interior knob set that is required to make a complete handleset. They are sold separately because of the numerous styles to choose from.

  • What is the difference between the single cylinder and the double cylinder? I tried the compare option but its not working.

    A. A single cylinder is just keyed on the exterior side of the door while a double cylinder is keyed on both the exterior AND interior side of the door.

  • Can this product be ordered without the deadbolt and with a different style interion knob?

    A. Thank you for your question. The Kwikset 554GN-LIP-S is available with a number of interior pack choices. Simply choose the finish, click "add to cart" and the selection will be provided on the next page. However, it is not available without a deadbolt.

  • In trying to determine if this handleset will fit the predrilled holes in my door, what comprises the height?

    A. This will still fit a standard bore hole. The standard bore hole diameter is 2 1/8". And the Height displayed on the website it the height from the bottom mounting screw (below the grip) to the top of thetop deadbolt.

    A. The Kwikset 554GN-LIP-S is a double cylinder and requires that a key be used to lock on both sides.

  • What hardware is on the INTERIOR side of the door and is that hardware a separate purchase?

    A. The Kwikset 554GN-LIP-S is the exterior portion of the handleset only. You will need to purchase a compatible interior pack to have a complete set. Once you had this item to your cart the next page that pops up will show you what units are compatible. The interior pack will have a knob or lever depending on what you choose and the inside deadbolt portion will be keyed just like the outside. A double cylinder unit will have a key whole for exterior and interior of the handleset. Means you must use your key on both sides. A single cylinder will have only the key hole on the outside and a thumbturn on the inside for the deadbolt.

    A. The Kwikset 554GN-LIP-S has to use the 987 series interior pack because of the style exterior handle this one is.

Great Handleset! Last on the market with a lock! For some reason just about all manufacturers have removed the lock from the handle in their handlesets in the past 10 years. I like being able to lock both the handle and the deadbolt. When I have workers in my home that need a key - I can give them the key to the handle only and never give the deadbolt key to anyone. And with the smart-key function I can change either lock at will and create a 'temporary key' for one lock only and then flip it back when no longer needed giving me added security after the work is done. The workmanship and finish is great and is what I have always received from a Kwikset product. August 9, 2011
Exactly What I Wanted I purchased this handleset for a door that had holes that were somewhat closer than 5.5 inches center-to-center. It fits great with plenty of room to spare. The double cylinder deadbolt is a must because of the window beside my door. The locking thumb latch adds a little extra security, and the SmartKey cylinders are very convenient. Quality is on par with other Kwikset products and should last a number of years. I would recommend this handleset to my friends and family. One word of caution: the interior knob/handle can be turned to open the door even when the thumb latch is locked. If you're not careful, you could lock yourself out of the house this way. Well Made Nice heavy set with double dead bolt. Installed easily on new Pella door. My contractor said it was much nicer than those available in the big box stores. Re-keying was a snap. January 4, 2011

Unsatisfactory - functionally altered We went through our new home and replaced all the Schlage locks because when locked, the doorknob on the inside continued to turn and open the door - we all kept locking ourselves out of the house inadvertently, just to get mail, go in the back yard, etc. Kwikset knobs lock on the inside so when you go to open the (locked) door, you go, "Oh - door's locked...", and you unlock it before going out. NOT TRUE OF THE GIBSON HANDSET!! It is just like all the Schlage locks we just tore out and replaced with Kwikset's. Unfortunately, because of the need to special-order the Gibson handset (Lowes and Home Depot don't stock it, and it is the only handset offering a lock on the handset - which we wanted - as well as the double-cylinder deadbolt), we did not find out until a week later, after all the regular locks had been replaced with Kwiksets. WHAT A PAIN!! October 18, 2010
Exactly what I wanted! This was exactly what I wanted! It is so hard to find a lock set that actually works like it's supposed to - the thumb release actually locks & unlocks the door! Believe it or not, this is a very hard item to find. It assures me that my house will be locked every time my kids go out. September 24, 2010
