Definately a cool WOW factor
We had intended to use a deck mount option for a recent install of a Jacuzzi tub (Jacuzzi Fuzion 7236), however, because of the design, learned after the tub was on site that the tub deck and mechanics would not provide adequate room for the configuration we had wanted to install on the tub deck (handles, spout, diverter and handshower). After considering different options, we modified some other design elements in the room to allow for the spout to be installed in the wall above the foot of the tub.
We didn't care for the look (or cost) of the coordinating drip tray, especially when it doesn't appear to drain anywhere - and you still need to manually empty it. So, instead, we built a mantle like box out above the foot of the tub to run the plumbing in and mount this spout (it's an external wall, so we couldn't run pipes in the existing wall).
The result - a really cool water fill feature with a great "wow" factor.
Functionally, the spout has a rather large chamber behind it that fills with water, which allows for a constant pressure and laminar flow out of the spout when in use. This chamber, however, has to drain after use, which causes a slow trickle of water to run along the face of the spout, and along whatever is underneath it for a bit - which is why Kohler has the coordinated drip tray.
However, for our installation, we have the spount mounted to the mantle like box that extends it over the tub water area, and we have faced all of the surfaces with tile/stone - so our dribble runs along water safe surfaces and drops into the tub. Works great.
We are cautious to double check we don't have water going where we don't want it - but we figured that the effort to gently wipe the area after the chamber drains is less work than having to empty a drip tray AND clean it periodically.
Love the look.
We also mounted the diverter on the same surface as the spout, and have the handles and handshower on the tub deck.
