We just purchased a Kohler Whitehaven K-6489. Does it require a special garbage disposer or will a standard size disposer be OK?

great looking sink
This Kohler farm sink is a throw back and totally modern at the same time. We've had some really nice compliments--and it's weirdly the centerpiece of our new kitchen. If you're thinking about getting it, it's really wide so things can all lay flat in it, but it's not really deep. And it requires a good washing after you do dishes since ours is white and picks up lots of stuff, like coffee grounds, etc. But well worth the effort to have such a beautiful sink. Faucet Direct did a fine job delivering--no issues there; it came on time, and was easily installed by our cabinet maker.

The sink arrived in good time in perfect condition. The installation has not been completed yet, but it looks beautiful.

LOVE this sink!!
I had previously looked at a Shaw sink but was concerned about small cracks reported in the reviews I had read. I chose this sink and we could not be more delighted with it! It was a bit difficult to install but my husband and I did it, ourselves. (Only that to get it to fit perfectly you must lift it many times in and out of the opening to "tweak" the fit.) The sink is quit heavy so it would have been easier with more than two people but we managed and we are in our 50s. I LOVE the look and it is wonderful for washing bigger items, bathing babies, or pets, etc. I don't miss my double basins in the slightest!

We regret ever installing this sink!
Within 3 mos. after installing this sink the basin showed scratches and wear I would never have thought possible. I immediately bought a rubber mat to protect it, but that's not how I want to have to live. The sink is unfortunately built in to my counter so replacing it will be expensive. Another design flaw is that water drips over the front edge and collects on the cabinet doors, where it removes the stain and whitens the top edge of our alder doors. We have become obsessed with mopping up the collected water. What a pain! I would never recommend buying this sink. We have now lived with it for 3 yrs and it looks like it's at least 10 yrs old.

Just did a complete kitchen re-do after 20 years in my home, and I've got to tell you that a big part of my joy is my new Kohler K-6546-4u It's the star of my kitchen!
