Wall Supply Elbow With 1/2" Connection from the Forte Collection

Solid piece, painful installation
This part is heavy and solid and feels like it will outlast you and your house. However, my Oct 2008 installation of this product in my newly renovated bathroom was somewhat painful and scary. I mounted a 1/2" NPT nipple on the wall and tiled over it, carefully leaving 9/16" exposed just like the Installation Guide specified. But when it came time to screwing the elbow on, to my horror I could not get more than about 2 turns before it tightened on the nipple. The problem was that there was still quite a large gap between the wall and the elbow, far more than the escutcheon could cover. So I had to cut the nipple down and then found that the dang elbow stopped turning with the supply outlet facing up! Ugh. I then had to give the female threads little shave/stretch with a spare pipe fitting before I was finally able to get the elbow on tight with the outlet facing down.
Seems to me the Kohler Installation Guide needs to be updated because 9/16" is way too much pipe to leave sticking out. Either that or they need to cut the threads larger on the elbow during manufacturing.
If you want to use this part make sure you test fit the elbow with the exact nipple you will use in the wall and adjust how much the nipple should stick out accordingly.
