I need something to control the showerhead and hand shower in an A/AB/B fashion (either on or both on), and also control the water temperature and volume. Can this do that? I am slightly confused because on Hansgrohe's website it shows what looks to be the same product and states that it only controls the volume for one outlet.
A. The Hansgrohe 04231 would be able to accommodate that for you. It controls temperature, volume and then has a diverter for two different applications as well as a removable stop ring that can be removed to allow simultaneous use of both options

I'm worried that the coverplate will get damaged by cleaning products in the long run if it is indeed plastic covered by a metal finish. Is the brushed nickel option also just plastic covered in metal?
A. The Hansgrohe 04231 has a plastic cover plate not matter what finish. It is still just as sturdy as the metal, as any product that would melt/tarnish the plastic finishing would also harm the finishing coat on the metal parts. Try to use soft cleaning materials on and around the product, just be careful and your Hans Grohe product should last a long time. I have been using a HansGrohe shower head, which is ALL plastic, for a very long time and the finish still looks great!

Plastic Surprise
Looks beautiful and works fine, but disappointed to discover that coverplate is chrome covered PLASTIC which is never mentioned in specifications. This is true of several Hansgrohe products, so check. I am leary of appearance in the long term in case cleaning materials accidently are used on it. Should have read reviews before purchase.

Perfect.
I wanted to have a stationary showerhead and also a handheld shower, and the ability to run one or the other or both. This, along with the Hansgrohe 01850 3/4" iBox Universal Plus Rough In Valve with Service Stop, allows me to do that. It works exactly as I planned, and so simply. I wouldn't say it changed my life - but it definitely changed my shower habits. I can now turn the water on and off so simply that I turn it off often during the shower when I'm not specifically using any water. Oh, and I should mention it is very easy to turn both handles. The top has definite stops at each A, B, and A/B setting. The bottom is smooth and stays put once you stop turning.
