Broken THREE times!
I installed the valve in a high-end bathroom renovation along with the tub/shower diverter valve, and Serin trim and tub spout. The fixtures all installed nicely and look very good.
Unfortunately, after the first use, the plastic temperature calibration unit that the trim handle attaches to broke. I called American Standard customer service and they promptly send a replacement.
I had hoped there was a defect in the first unit and replacing it would fix the problem. But the replacement part also broke after a couple of days of use.
Called for another replacement, made extra sure I was installing it correctly, no avail. The third unit broke on the first day.
In my opinion, this is a poorly designed element in an otherwise excellent product. When a user turns the handle, there is a very positive "stop" at the end of the travel on the cold side, but on the hot side, the "stop" has a soft feeling and if the user turns just a little too hard to see if they can make the water any hotter, the plastic temperature calibration unit just cracks and breaks.
As a designer, I'm confused how this product made it to market. I asked American Standard if they've experienced callbacks on this unit, and they asserted that they have not. A mystery.
Other than this problem, the valve and trim are excellent.
