Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tub, a lot easier to manage than cast iron Did a complete gut and renovation f the bathroom This tub is fantastic! My contractor bedded in quick-set so it won't move and I can't believe how quiet it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Initial Review Reasonably priced. Delivered promptly. External view of packaging looked appropriate and this was confirmed when the box was opened about two weeks after arriving. I checked the dimensions and all was as advertised except for the material that was sprayed on the underside and sides of the tub. It's a black material that looks to be primarily for stiffening and corrosion control. I've no issue with the type or placement except that I had to trim it back to the tub lip as it increased the 32" width to almost 32 1/2". As I had already installed 1/4" shim pieces (per the directions) below the concrete board it was apparent that the tub wouldn't fit it the opening provided. I have trimmed the material back to the tub - took about an hour as I wanted to be careful not to nick the porcelin coating. I have not installed it yet but will update the review once complete. I don't expect to have any issues with the installation. The weight is manageable and it shouldn't be too much of an issue to maneuver into place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really deep but "white" is not white I really, really like this tub. Feels like cast iron and looks vintage, but much lighter. It is a truly deep soaker--so deep my water tank isn't big enough to fill it up with enough hot water. I am only 5'5" but I find the stepover just fine, not unlike my shallow tub I had before. I don't have a problem with how the non-slip spots look at all--I read the complaints. However, my problem was that I ordered "white" and it was really off-white. I only noticed it after I had it installed and noticed it didn't match my truly white tiles that there is another color option, "arctic white." Perhaps that color is a truer white. Felt disappointed at first, but I'm used to the color now and everything else about the tub is great. A nice thing to note is that I brought this up with Faucetdirect and they instantly said they'd swap it out for the "arctic white." It was too late for me because it was already installed, but that is good customer service.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrid! This tub was bought by my bathroom contractor just a couple of weeks ago and I already HATE it. I'm still in the process of remodeling the bathroom and haven't even had the chance to use it. First, the installation was a pain in the you-know-what. The tub was noisy and just overall difficult. I had to have foam installed underneath it to keep it from making some awful noises (and based on other reviews, they're likely to return). Second, the Stan-sure "stuff" in the bottom of it is nothing but a dirt trap. My tub is already stained because of those nasty rough spots (because, really, that's all they are). Even trying to cover and protect the tub didn't help. If it weren't for the beautiful tile work surrounding it, I'd rip it out and start over.... with a Kohler tub. The only pro is that the outside face of the tub looks good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Choice I needed a new bath tub in my 75 yr. old bathroom. We wanted cast iron rather than a fiberglass tub, but cast iron was too heavy and too costly. We also need an unusual size. We found this Americast tub that totally fit the bill. It's not as heavy as cast iron, and has a nice sturdy feel to it. The finish is guaranteed for life. I couldn't be happier!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but it creaks We bought this tub a year ago and installed it. We loved it for awhile until it started making this annoying creaking sound when getting in and out of the tub. Would not use this tub again. If you have an old house do not buy this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built, HEAVY, be home for delivery I had this installed in my upstairs guest bathroom. Both the contactor and I inspected it on delivery for defects and we found none. CAUTION--for the delivery, be at home and have a helping hand around. The trucking company informed me that if I transported it from the truck to my garage, there was no delivery charge. If he did it, it would cost $65--dumb. To make it more absurd, I could use his dolly. My neighbor and I took care of the problem. Just be prepared for this situation. As far as the product, I am glad that the contractor had to move it upstairs. It is quite heavy and awkward. Once in place, it is exactly what we wanted. We are in the process of tiling around it now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Once good I am sure this was once a good tub. HOWEVER, THE TUB WAS IN PLACE AND IN GOOD CONDITION when we bought our house, but have watched the rust develop all over the bath in the past 18 months. Due to us not being the original owner we are now stuck. We have nice finishings in the bathroom and in order to replace have to do a full renovation. Not good enough.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Rust problem around the overfill opening I loved this tub for the first several years. HOWEVER, we now have a rusting issue around the bottom half of the overfill opening. American Standard has sent a repairman to our house twice in the past two years and he did a terrific job each time. So we thought. The rust is now back and AS is refusing to repair it a third time. While they have offered to replace the tub, or give us a full refund for the tub, I am stuck with the fact that the tub is surrounded by a very expensive custom marble installation that that would all have to be removed. Additionally, the tub is on the second floor and my whole house renovation included all new ceilings on the first floor. A hole in the kitchen would be necessary to complete the tub removal and installation. Cost is expected to be three times that of the cost of the tub. Looks like I may end up paying for the tub repair for myself once every 8-10 months.....forever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderbath without add-ons It has higher overflow drain without expence of whirlpool. Not slippery. I have put in high-flow drain plug so that hair will not catch on. Never had any drainage problems and still drain fast as new ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beautiful tub in its own right! We were remodeling two, second-story bathrooms, and needed 5' tubs not wider than 32" to replace the old fixtures. Both of us like clean, simple lines in our home; the less embellishment, the better. So many tubs now have lots of molding details on the aprons, which we didn't want. I did extensive research and felt that an Americast tub would be perfect--porcelain finish but much less weight--and the Cambridge design was exactly to our taste. The tubs arrived without damage (GOOD packaging), and our plumber is very impressed with them. He hadn't seen an Americast tub before, but loved the lighter weight, the quality of the finish and the ease of installation. Americast tubs are an excellent alternative to cast iron, but I wouldn't think of them as an "also-ran" to that material. They're actually preferable in some ways: less weight, easier installation and, due to both of those factors, less likelihood of damage during the installation process. Five stars all around for this tub!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice bathtub, prefer over cast iron I've used two of these tubs on remodeling jobs and they are a quality product. A definite improvement over cast iron. The light weight makes them easy to install. Be sure to inspect the finish very carefully [...] (in the proper light). If there is a flaw you need to find it when it [...], not after its installed!
Date published: 2011-03-20
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible to install This tub looks great. Don't know how durable it is, we already have a small scratch up by the overflow and we were very careful with install. Also the whole tub was crooked and we ended up calling in a professional to install. The pro had a horrible time with trying to get tub level and just couldn't believe it. Would not buy this tub again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful tub! We wanted a tub to replace our 84-year-old cast-iron tub. We replaced the old bathroom entirely, but wanted it to look like it fit in the old house: not too modern. We also did not want acrylic. This tub is perfect. The Americast feels like cast iron without the weight, and we like the porcelain surface. Also, we wanted a comfortable tub that you can soak in, and we wanted it to hold a lot of water. The slope on the end of this is very, very comfortable, which is not true of most tubs, and the water capacity is greater than most; the sides of the tub are higher than average. If you're replacing an old bathroom but don't want the cutsey clawfoot type, get this one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tub I have ever had! Tub is deep and has a recessed back for relaxing and is very comfortable. Non slip very good. Follow cleaning instructions and you will have no problems. Less offgassing with enamel tubs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG! What a great find! I remodeledthe master bath of my 90 year-old home. I wanted a vintage tub, but a clawfoot tubs was out of my budget. After looking at every tub ever made, I thought I'd look at American Standard. I actually found this tub by accident - I thought I was looking for one model, but found this one instead. It had all of the features I was looking for, and it looks great in my small vintage bath. Aside from making sure the tub was level and adjusting the plumbing, my contractor had little difficulty in installing the tub. Hot water stays heated longer than my old tub, and it's easy to clean.
